Yes, Chef has an unemployed chef and a recently dumped influencer who team up to renovate a restaurant in a Florida beach town. It’s filled with flirty banter, sizzling chemistry and plenty of heat!
Poppy is a popular influencer who is loved by millions of followers. When her famous boyfriend, an NBA star, invites her to dinner at her father’s fancy New York restaurant, she thinks he’s going to propose – but instead he breaks up with her. (I was feeling major Legally Blonde vibes here!) She wants to escape! Meanwhile, Jack is an elite chef who is struggling after the death of his mentor, Sal. He’s been drinking too much and Poppy’s father ends up firing him from his restaurant.
Jack and Poppy decide to team up and renovate the rundown restaurant that Sal left Jack in his will. Sal also leaves Jack a houseboat where the two stay while they fix up Fable (his restaurant). Jack hopes that if Poppy’s dad sees Fable is a success, he’ll hire him back to work at one of his New York restaurants. Jack doesn’t think Poppy will be much help, but he’s impressed by her work when she takes over Fable’s social media. He teaches her about the restaurant from the bottom up. She wants to show her father that despite having ADHD she’s worthy of a job in his restaurant empire.
Jack teaches Poppy how to cook and I was hungry as they made grilled cheese sandwiches and other delicious dishes. Poppy thinks cooking is magical, especially when they flirt and kiss in the kitchen. It felt like Poppy spends a little too much time worrying about what her family thinks of her career and boyfriend, while Jack is weighed down by guilt from his past. He grew up in foster care, until Sal took him in while Poppy comes from a wealthy family, so it’s a little bit of opposites attract. There was a third act breakup I could see coming from a mile away, but I enjoyed watching Poppy and Jack’s romance grow as they worked through their challenges and transformed Fable. Now, I’m ready for a snack!
