Hott Hotter Hottest: a review by Kayne
Serena Bell’s romcoms are always a treat – they’re heartwarming, funny and leave me smiling. This is Tucker’s story and it’s the fifth and final book in the Hott Springs Eternal series. While it’s a little more serious than the other Hott brothers’ books, it still has a lighthearted feel, and despite being a little predictable in places, I was happy to read it.
Tucker and his brothers have to complete tasks as part of their grandfather’s will. If they don’t, Blue Iron Mining will receive the family land where their sister Hanna has her wedding business. Tucker was a bodyguard until he lost someone close to him and he’s still grieving. When Hannah asks him to protect Autumn, the sister of an upcoming bride, he’s not happy about it. He feels guilty about what happened on his last assignment and struggles with the idea of protecting someone again, but he does it to help Hannah. There has been some sabotage of her business in each book of the series and he’s worried it’s escalating. Tucker can be quite the grump and it’s really funny that he’s tasked with being a bodyguard for a happiness influencer!
Autumn is a celebrity influencer and her father worries she is being stalked when a “How to Be Miserable” influencer starts mocking her. She doesn’t want to worry her sister, Summer, so she asks Tucker to work undercover as her fake date. They are the best grumpy/sunshine couple and they bring lots of humor to the story. When Summer asks Autumn how she and Tucker met, she tells her they met at a Happiness Extravaganza conference. Tucker goes along with it and says he’s a joyful productivity coach and it was love at first sight. He gets a lot of teasing from his brothers and it adds to the fun. Tucker also begins to wonder about Autumn’s need to be happy all the time. I enjoyed the happiness theme throughout the story and it was fun to catch up with the Hott brothers from the other books as they help and support each other.
The story felt a little predictable in places and while this was an entertaining, lighthearted, spicy romcom, I enjoyed some of the earlier books in the series a bit more. Readers new to Serena Bell might also enjoy her Wilder Adventures or Under One Roof series. I think Sleepover is still my favorite of Bell’s books. I am excited to see what series she’ll start next!
