We will be launching our poll for the 2024 AAR Top 100 Romances list later this week. There will be 200 books to choose from, taken from a combination of the last AAR Top 100 Romances list, reader nominations, and reviewer favorites. I analyzed the list for genre–and it didn’t surprise me historical romances were books you chose the most!
Here’s the breakdown: Historical romance has 98 titles; Contemporary romance, 71; Fantasy/PRN romance, 21; Romantic Suspense, 8; and Sci Fi romance, 2. The oldest book on the list was published in 1913; the newest, in 2024. There is some overlap between the categories so I’ve sorted them into the genres I think are most representative of the stories.
