After polishing off the final season of Derry Girls–good but not great though I could watch Siobhán McSweeney as Sister Michael all damn day–thoroughly enjoying Nicola Walker’s chatty Annika, loving the final of Shetland, and peering through the gloom (on the screen) at Wisting, Dr. Feelgood and I are now obsessively watching Peaky Blinders. We’re still in the first season so, please, no spoilers in the comments. Cillian Murphy is mesmerizing.

How about you? What are you watching? Anything you love? Anything you hate? And what are you waiting for to drop? For me, it’s the revival, in mini-series form, of Justified, my all time favorite TV show. It is supposed to drop in early 2023 and I can’t wait! One of my best friends just ran into Timothy Olyphant and his dog at a diner in Manhattan. She said he was lovely and (still) very hot.

  1. I started season 5 of The Crown and…….I’m not loving it. Dare I say, it’s a little boring. Don’t want to say any more than that.
We’re watching The Peripheral on Amazon. I’m enjoying it a lot. I believe it’s the same writers as Westworld.
We absolutely LOVED House of the Dragon.
My favourite feel good series right now is Acapulco on Apple . My husband is fluent in Spanish so he gets a real kick out of it..
we tried season 2 of Los Espookys but unfortunately it lost its charm.
I also finished season 2 of Only Murders in the Building. I just love Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez. Bring on season 3 please.

    1. I live in a condo so Only Murders in the Building is my world. I love that show. It’s so big hearted even as it skewers the residents.

    2. I thought Los Espookys season 2 wasn’t quite as fun as season 1, but still found it very oddball and charming. Did you make it to the end of the season? The finale was quite funny.

      1. I think now that we’re done with House of the Dragon, we’ll revisit Los Espookys. The first season was so charming, that I want to give it another chance.

    3. We’ve finished the first season of Only Murders in the Building and loved it! Going to catch up on Season 2 over the winter (My daughter is watching it with us and she’s in her first term at university so she doesn’t have a lot of time until Christmas break).

    4. I’m a big fan of Only Murders as well. Season 2 was great and the Steve/Martin/Selena trio is gold. I loved the set up for season 3 and look forward to it!

  2. Watched all 3 seasons of Derry Girls about a week ago and totally agree about Sister Michael. Enjoyed the show but the girls were sometimes a bit frenetic, and to listen to Sister Michael’s deadpan reactions was a hoot.

Have you seen the holiday episode of The Great British Baking Show with the cast of the Derry Girls? It’s a bit startling how much the actors’ personalities are similar to the ones they portrayed, although that just may be part of the show.

      1. I don’t watch reality shows either, but when I mentioned liking Derry Girls to a friend she said I should watch this episode of GBBS. It’s far gentler than American reality shows and I liked seeing the actors again. It’s only an hour, and you should watch it just for Siobhan McSweeney who is as much fun as herself as she was as Sister Michael.

  3. The new Interview with the Vampire on AMC is interesting – it reminds me a little of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel in terms of how the vampires are depicted (especially Darla – I loved Darla). They also deviate from the books and make two of the characters black and move the setting to New Orleans in 1910 and they actually explore what it would be like to be a black vampire in the Jim Crow South. The writing is uneven, and the main romance becomes extremely toxic and abusive (which was a little too disturbing for me) but I thought it was a worthwhile show with incredible acting, costumes, and sets.

    1. I too loved Darla. She was the first face we saw in BtVs and she anchored both shows brilliantly. Your comment makes me want to check out IwaV!

  4. My SO will be thrilled to hear they are creating more Justified!

I too am in the middle of the new season of The Crown; and like Kris, am not enjoying it quite as much as those early seasons. I wonder if it is because I am more familiar with the subject matter having lived through it? I will likely finish it, however, because there are bits and pieces that I wasn’t aware of and are interesting e.g. the carriage racing vis a vis historical romances and they’re curricles.

It sounds like I would enjoy Derry Girls as well.

  5. We just finished the Endeavor Series and are thinking about trying Inspector Lewis. We have a few episodes of Shetland left. I like McDonald and Dobbs also and The Chelsea Detective (he lives on a houseboat). Loved Only Murders in the Building. We’re thinking about watching Confess, Fletch starring John Ham. If you saw it, what did you think?

    1. That’s on our list. Dr. FG LOVES the original Fletch.

I am dying for the final season of Endeavour so I can’t even consider Inspector Morse, which I’ve never seen. I don’t know anything about Inspector Lewis.

    2. I’ve watched both Endeavour and Inspector Lewis and thoroughly enjoyed them. Endeavour has the advantage of being a period piece, with its lovely costumes and historical storylines but Inspector Lewis is fast paced and interesting. Have not yet seen the Morse series but if you like Endeavor I think you will enjoy Inspector Lewis.

  6. I’m still addicted to reality cooking shows so we’re catching up on some seasons of the Great Canadian Baking Show, and now watching all the Holiday shows on the Food Network. I do have intentions to watch the second season of Miss Scarlett and the Duke on PBS too.

  7. I enjoyed Reboot on Hulu (entire season is now available). It’s a comedy series about the reboot of an old sitcom and the storylines involve the 4 actors from the sitcom and the writers. The show has some really great actors – Judy Greer, Paul Reiser, Rachel Bloom, Keegan-Michael Key – and is created by Steve Levitan, who created Modern Family. I highly recommend the show – it’s really funny!
